This sailboat is a pride for Colombian people  because it is our best representation and  ambassador  in the world. It is  the  Colombia Navy and each year visit many countries of the world.

Is the Alma Mater of the Colombian sailors, on the Vessel sailors learn and practice coastal and astronomical navigation, the operation of modern navigation and communications tools and equipment, sails and ropes maneuvering, seamanship whistles and in general all
activities of a navigator.

On it unforgettable moments are lived year after year that help build the temple, strength and character necessaries of its crew, knights of the sea, carrying with pride and gallantry a peace and progress message through the ports and seas of the world.

The history of the ARC “Gloria” vessel dates back to 1966 when by Decree No. 111 of January of that year, at the leadership of commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral, mister Orlando Lemaitre Torres, the Colombian government authorized the National Navy to acquire a Sailing Ship, Brig type, with three masts, in order to have a National Navy Academy Tall Ship.

At that time, as well as in social, work meetings or in meetings of social nature with the military, the issue always was the need to acquire an Academy Tall Ship. Finally, the Minister of Defense, General Gabriel Rebeiz Pizarro, convinced of the need of the tall ship and in front of several officers at a social gathering, expressed his approval to the project and to confirm his decision, he took a napkin and wrote “ Valid for a Tall Ship ”and signed.

After this peculiar pact, the formal contract was signed on October 6, 1966 with the Spanish Society of Shipbuilding based in Bilbao and was implemented in April 1967.

As supervisor of the construction the Commander  Benjamin Alzate Reyes (RIP) was chosen, and on December 2nd of the year in question, the christening ceremony of the hull was held at the waters of the "Bilbao River"

Mrs. Gloria Zawadsky De Rebeiz, Rebeiz general's wife attended to the ceremony, unfortunately, the General Rebeiz passed away before the work for which he fought was finished.

In August 1968 a group formed by officers, petty officers, cadets and civilian personnel, was privileged to be commissioned to travel to Europe, in order to participate in the final stage of the construction and reception of the Vessel.

The unit was docked at the Canal de Deusto's pier and on September 7, 1968 at 17: 30hrs official events at a ceremony were held, where the National Flag was raised on the Vessel.

After the hard training to the crew, the corresponding sea trials and detailed all aspects of seamanship, on October 9, 1968, the unit sailed its first voyage, letting the ends in the Ferrol del Caudillo port to finally arrive at the Colombian port of “ Cartagena de Indias "  on November 11, 1968.
